South Burnett Cultural Resource Mapping

In July 2020 Olivia was awarded funding by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland (Individuals Fund) to take part in a period of professional development during the second half of 2020. Thanks to this funding support, a Cultural Resource Mapping research project was undertaken for the South Burnett Region in order to understand and record the scope of artistic and cultural practice and resources within the region. The mapping process was led by Olivia Everitt with mentorship and guidance provided by Lesley Buckley (Senior Cultural Planner, Cairns Regional Council).

Cultural Resource Mapping is a process of identifying and documenting the arts and cultural assets within a geographic region. These community assets may include, but not limited to: community and cultural facilities, arts and cultural groups, volunteers and individual artists, festivals, heritage sites and local businesses operating within the cultural or creative industries. Cultural Resource Mapping is a valuable tool to profile arts and cultural activity, and can be used as a foundation for further cultural planning work, community arts development and for advocacy activities.

Research and data collection was undertaken between July-December 2020 and a ‘snapshot’ report summarizing the findings is now available to download:
