Professional Development Workshops for Artists: Gladstone Region

Grant Writing and Professional Development Workshops for Artists in Gladstone, Calliope & Agnes Water

I was thrilled to make my first visit to the Gladstone region in late 2024 and again in February 2025 to deliver four arts professional development workshops for Gladstone-based creatives. Over four engaging sessions, these workshops focused on building fundamental skills and confidence in grant writing and artist biography development, empowering local creatives to grow their business acumen and take their careers to the next level.

22 from 44 workshop participants (50%) completed a post-workshop feedback survey and provided the following insights:

  • 100% rated the facilitator (that’s me!) as ‘excellent’ in knowledge, delivery and approachability.

  • 86% of attendees were ‘extremely likely’ to recommend the workshops to a friend or colleague, and 14% were ‘likely’ to recommend.

"The Art of Artist Biographies" Workshop:

  • Date & Location: February 12, 2025, at Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum.

  • Special Feature: Participants received professional ‘head shot’ style portrait photographs courtesy of the local photographer, Wezzy Crüze. Thank you, Wezzy!

  • Focus: This workshop guided participants through the process of crafting compelling artist biographies, an essential promotional tool for artists of any discipline to showcase their work online or in exhibition proposals, residency applications, grant submissions, art award entries and more. This workshop combines ‘theory’ and ‘practice’ including discussing the differences between an artist statement vs. an artist biography.

A total of of 44 attendees participated across 4 workshops, with artists from across the Gladstone region taking part (Gladstone, Calliope, Captain Creek, Agnes Water) and beyond (special thanks to artists and arts workers who travelled from as far as Rockhampton, Biloela and Gin Gin to attend!).

These workshops were made possible with the support of Gladstone Regional Council and Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum through the Regional Arts Development Fund. It was a delight to meet so many talented artists and to experience a little piece of what your region has to offer whilst I was in the neighbourhood!

Thank you, Gladstone!

It was a privilege to be immersed in the Gladstone region and meet such a diverse range of artists and creative practitioners who call the region home. Thank you again to Gladstone Regional Council and Gladstone Regional Art Gallery and Museum for making these workshops possible and for welcoming me so warmly to the region. I’m proud of the positive impact these workshops have had on your local arts community and I look forward to continuing to support artists in their professional development throughout regional Queensland.
